The great street of Mont saint michel
A visit to Mont-Saint-Michel is definitely worth it. This town still exudes the real medieval atmosphere everywhere. Take, for example, the main street of the village, also called the Grand Rue. A beautiful street with beautiful shops and restaurants on both sides. Really a place to take a good look at the town. It is a street that does have a fairly touristy character, but that is for good reason. This is a street in a town that can rightly be called very special.
Visit Mont-Saint-Michel’s main street
The Grand Rue is rightfully a main street. Where most of the streets and roads in Mont-Saint-Michel are more like stairs, the main street is actually the only street that continues uninterrupted. It does go uphill, keep that in mind if you plan to go shopping on this street. This is the main street that pilgrims used to walk on on their way to the abbey which is the center of the town. But kings and queens also walked here when they visited the abbey. It is therefore a street with a lot of history. This can be seen in the many authentic buildings that surround the street. The medieval atmosphere that you will find here is not likely to be found elsewhere!
Enjoy the Grand Rue
On the Grand Rue you will find a large number of shops. Many of these shops sell real tourist things, but there are also shops with typical regional products. However, every shop is worth a visit. Everything is in real medieval buildings, all with their own special atmosphere. We strongly recommend that you complete a visit to Mont-Saint-Michel with a pleasant walk on the Grand Rue! This street also leads along practically all the special sights that Mont-Saint-Michel has, from the imposing Port du Roy to the Adbij!
